WHAT IS VITAMIN E?

WHAT IS VITAMIN E?

By TEAM STURM

10th Jun 2026

Vitamin E is the collective name for a group of fat-soluble compounds with powerful antioxidant properties. Naturally present in the body, it helps protect cell membranes and skin lipids from environmental oxidative stress and plays an essential role in maintaining healthy skin, vision, immune function, and cognitive health.

What does Vitamin E do for skin?

In topical skincare, Vitamin E both protects and nourishes the skin. Renowned for its antioxidant benefits, it also plays an important role in supporting the skin barrier, helping to maintain moisture balance and reduce dehydration.

Vitamin E is widely used in skincare because it works synergistically with a variety of active ingredients to strengthen antioxidant protection and support overall skin health. A true multitasker, it enhances the efficacy and stability of other ingredients while helping to reinforce the skin’s natural defenses.

Which Dr. Barbara Sturm products contain Vitamin E?

Many of my formulas contain Vitamin E. On ingredient lists, it may appear as Tocopherol or Tocopheryl Acetate, the scientific names for forms of Vitamin E commonly used in skincare.

In signature formulas such as FACE CREAM, SUPER ANTI-AGING FACE CREAM, and EYE CREAM, Vitamin E is combined with bio-fermented Purslane, a powerful antioxidant and anti-aging ingredient. Together, they help protect the skin from oxidative stress while calming and soothing visible irritation.

Because Vitamin E also functions as an effective moisturizing agent, I incorporate it into many of my body care formulations, including ANTI-AGING BODY CREAM and SUPER ANTI-AGING HAND CREAM. In these products, it delivers intensive nourishment while helping to strengthen and protect the skin barrier.

Can I use Vitamin E every day?

Yes. Vitamin E is generally very well tolerated and suitable for daily use. Because it supports the skin’s natural protective and restorative functions, it can be used as part of both your morning and evening skincare routines.

Can you combine Vitamin E with Vitamin C?

Absolutely. In fact, Vitamins E and C are one of skincare’s most effective antioxidant pairings. Together, they help strengthen the skin’s defense system by neutralizing free radicals and reducing oxidative stress before it can contribute to premature skin aging.

Vitamin C also helps regenerate oxidized Vitamin E, allowing both ingredients to perform more effectively and deliver enhanced antioxidant protection.

Which foods are high in Vitamin E?

Because the body cannot produce Vitamin E on its own, it is important to obtain it through your diet. Foods rich in Vitamin E include avocados, almonds, sunflower seeds, spinach, and olive oil. Regular consumption of these nutrient-dense foods can help support healthy skin and contribute to the body’s natural protective functions.
