7 Anti-Inflammatory Moments with Dr. Sturm
15th Sep 2022
Wellness is something you can feel and requires a mindful shift to an anti-inflammatory lifestyle. My approach includes at least one “anti-inflammatory moment” each day, which can be anything from meditating for five minutes, to enjoying a facial at one of my Boutiques & Spas. These are some of my most valued anti-inflammatory moments.

Take a Warm Bath
1. Take a Warm Bath
A warm bath at the end of a busy day is a great way to relax your body and mind. Soaking in warm water can decrease stress hormones and improve Serotonin levels which helps to regulate your mood. It can also help with muscle soreness and tension, making recovery after workouts easier. I love taking a milk bath. Whole cow’s milk is full of nourishing vitamins and minerals; Vitamin E, which helps support cell function and skin health and Zinc, which holds anti-inflammatory properties and is ideal for soothing and healing skin. Milk also contains Lactic Acid, which acts as a mild exfoliant. It’s an easy, affordable skincare treat and the perfect way to unwind.

Spend the Day at a Spa
2. Spend the Day at a Spa
Whenever I am in Dusseldorf, London, New York, LA or Dallas, the first thing I do is go to one of my Spas and have a facial. I am usually quite busy with work and with my children, so I like to try and take advantage of any free time I have. I love to book in a facial and enjoy some red light therapy at my LA Boutique & Spa if I am in town.

Plan in a Workout

I think we should all move every day. Movement is one of the key anti-aging approaches of all time and one of the most important things you can do to achieve physical wellness. Great to start the day with exercise and the mental focus and generated endorphins are the best feeling. I personally mix it up depending on where I am but I love taking a walk, hiking, swimming and skiing. When I have less time, I love to do at least 30 minutes of yoga or Pilates in the morning, and it immediately jump starts my day.
4.
Enjoy a Cup of Tea
4. Enjoy a Cup of Tea
I find settling down with a cup of tea in the evening or for a moment in the afternoon so grounding. For me, making a cup of tea and drinking it is associated with positive mood and feelings of relaxation. I am currently developing one of my own blends with herbs and plants specifically renowned for their de-stressing, anti-inflammatory, and mood-boosting benefits.
5.
Spend time with Family
5. Spend time with Family
One of my favorite anti-inflammatory moments is hugging and cuddling my daughters. Hugs and physical affection with your loved ones can boost the hormone Oxytocin, which has been shown to strengthen the immune system and reduce stress. It takes no extra time to show someone a little love and it has amazing benefits to your overall happiness and health.
6.
Using a Sauna
6. Using a Sauna
I love to take a sauna as a tool for skin health and overall wellbeing, it also feels great! Saunas have been clinically shown to improve skin barrier function, regulate sebum flow, and improve cardiovascular and muscular health. It’s a relaxing and detoxing practice that also promotes circulation. Just make sure to apply a Hyaluronic Acid and moisturizer immediately after finishing the sauna, to seal in moisture and avoid dehydration through osmosis.
7.
Get a Good Night's Sleep
7. Get a Good Night's Sleep
Sleep quality has an influence on everything from our immune systems, hormones, weight gain and brain function, to the health of our skin. I usually get a full night’s sleep because it’s something I prioritize. Generally, I try to go to sleep before 10 P.M if I can, and I’ll avoid ‘HEV’ exposure from my mobile phone before bed which triggers the stress hormone Cortisol. When I have trouble going to sleep my GOOD NIGHT supplements are essential; they contain a blend of calming natural ingredients that can help soothe the mind for a more restorative and restful night.
